Go Long – Why you should bet futures on Tiger Woods

With Tiger Woods' shaky play betting futures is smart money
Going into the Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament this week Tiger Woods was favored to win. Many sports bettors backed the #1 ranked golfer to win the tournament after several poor outings.
It doesn’t look like it’s meant to be for Woods this weekend – he shot a 74 making it his worse golf score in 45 rounds. Despite his catastrophic start there wasn’t much value in the Tiger Woods odds posted at BetUS. At +350 there just isn’t a lot of value. His erratic play since returning from his marital issues makes him a risky proposition to bet on.
Taking a long position on Tiger Woods and betting futures still has some value. BetUS.com has woods at +500 for winning a major this year. He has the skills and will likely pull out at least one major golf victory this year. Initially his putting was off, then his drives – eventually, he will get things working together at the same time.
Future bets are a great way to back a good team or player without relying on a single performance. Consider this weekends Bridgestone tournament, if you backed Tiger at +350, $100 bet would have paid you $350. This gives him one shot to win. Instead if you backed him to win a major at +500, the same $100 bet would have paid you $500. Obviously winning a major isn’t easy but the field in the Bridgestone this weekend still has Phil Mickelson, Kenny Perry, Adam Scott and many other great players.
Go long: if you don’t see value in individual events look to bet on futures.
